The Puerto Rico Democratic Party unanimously approved a Resolution that calls and urges the Fiscal Oversight and Management Board for Puerto Rico to withdraw its lawsuit against the Net Metering Law

SESA supports the Democratic Party of Puerto Rico for approval of this Resolution at a meeting held today in Chicago, Illinois, in the context of the Democratic National Convention.

San Juan, Puerto Rico. August 22, 2024. - The Solar Energy and Storage Association of Puerto Rico (SESA) extended today its support to the Puerto Rico Democratic Party after the unanimous approval by all delegates of a Resolution to demand and urge the Fiscal Oversight and Management Board for Puerto Rico (FOMB) to withdraw its lawsuit against Law 10-2024.

Said Resolution states that "the Democratic Party strongly supports the people of Puerto Rico and their right to clean and affordable energy solutions, and that the Fiscal Oversight and Management Board for Puerto Rico’s lawsuit against Law 10-2024 directly undermines the island's ability to achieve energy independence through solar energy, which aligns with the Democratic Party's commitment to clean energy and climate resilience."

The Resolution also calls on the current members of the FOMB to formally vote at its next regular meeting to withdraw the lawsuit against Law 10-2024.

Javier Rúa Jovet, SESA's Director of Public Policy, said "the Puerto Rico Democratic Party's request to the FOMB is precisely the kind of action we need at this time to protect Puerto Ricans' right to install solar energy and storage in a cost-effective manner, and for that we express our appreciation and support. The decision is in keeping with the National Democratic Party Platform approved this week during the Democratic National Convention, which not only specifically reaffirms its commitment to rebuilding Puerto Rico, but also the need to redouble all efforts to combat climate change, and the critical importance of achieving the early exit of the FOMB".

Rúa Jovet added that "the action taken today by the Puerto Rico Democratic Party is clearly aligned with the very strong expressions of support for solar energy and the protection of net metering by 21 Members of Congress, Secretary of Energy Granholm, and even the now official candidate for the US presidency, Kamala Harris, who in her only official trip to the island as vice president affirmatively decided to visit a new net metering solar installation, emphasizing the importance of this issue to the Biden/Harris Administration".

SESA is currently engaged in a signature gathering effort to advocate for net metering and the right of Puerto Ricans to have affordable access to solar energy. To sign the petition, go to https://rb.gy/acuwqd
